Students at T.E.C. thrive in our large, live performances at the Holiday Concert in December and the Arts Night in June. I am delighted to continue to oversee the music program to make these performances a reality, and to organize the music program to develop the children’s skills in understanding and making music. It is also a fascinating and fun process to coach the older students (grades 6 and up) on their year-long personal projects, which involve an entire year of work learning and sharing on a topic of their expertise, culminating in the “Capstone” presentation at the end of the school year. Topics we’ve had so far range from history of dance to computers, Japanese Anime to Renaissance Art, Ancient China to sharks, airplanes to FDR. The children love sharing their work and their expertise with fellow students and these large works are a major milestone in the child’s road to maturity and self-assurance.
